Point 'n' Click Game - Easiest Genre Ever

Let's face it, it's not very hard to start a flash (or any other project) - hell, you might even build a reasonable engine in two or three days. I should know - I've built working engines for a text adventure, a vertical shooter, two platformers, a rhythm game, and a sniper game, none of which were finished. I've also written countless prologues to novels, even written 6,000-word development text - but, again, never finished. But what really seperates the good project leaders and writers from the merely average is that they finish.

Bearing that in mind, I've decided to start work on a simplistic point-and-click game, something along the lines of The Crimson Room. I'm sure anyone that checks these news posts has played at least one. Anyway, if not, Google "Crimson Room". Perhaps the easiest of the flash game genres, and one that utilises my talents - programming and writing - far more than it does my weaknesses, which just so happen to be music and art.

For one, a point-and-click game, especially an escape game, requires only rudimentary graphics to work. So long as you can identify the items, and so long as those items stand out, there's no real need to make Crysis-level graphics. Secondly, a point-and-click game is based around its puzzle elements and its story. Coincidentally, I undertook two or so years of learning at GameDev.net, a great haven for game developers (seriously, I recommend to anyone wanting to go into the field). That passed earlier this year; game design is not what I want to go into as a serious career, but the knowledge and experience I acquired there will remain with me on any personal projects I might undertake in the future. I can make a fun, well-written game with few glitches; in short, if you're willing to put up with merely basic art, I hope you'll find enjoyment in whatever I submit.

"Why doesn't he submit something more advanced than a measily point-and-click?" I hear you cry. That's quite simple, elementary, even. I doubt I'd complete a game with moving parts. I've worked on numerous stillborn projects - with and without fellow workers - and they've inevitably collapsed because of too much ambition. So I'm hoping that this completely unambitious project will allow me to complete something, and inspire me with the dedication and confidence to try something more difficult in future.
