Meh.

Nice concept, but the controls were too slow and movement took too long for it to be particularly fun. It would have been more fun if there'd been a more fluid movement system (such as N or Fancy Pants Adventure or Super Meat Boy's). The puzzles were good, but they just took far too long to do, even once you'd figured out the solution, to be any fun.

Next time I recommend either breaking levels into clumps with multiple sections or speeding up the core gameplay to prevent players from becoming bored.

Gut-wrenchingly, agonisingly hard.

Firstly - there's been a number of indie/flash games with similar mechanics to this, the most prominent being Clean Asia. It's not a common feature, but I've seen it before, mostly in bullet-hell shooters, so it's not an incredibly innovative idea, although it's pretty cool.

Now, I'm normally not adverse to difficulty, but this game is a whole new level of hard. You need to reset once every few minutes, and often the amount of points earned is disproportional to the actual skill you use in defeating the enemies. It takes forever to get to level three in all the upgrades, for example. That's probably because of the constant, unavoidable bullet hell. The game wouldn't be the same without it, of course, but perhaps slowing the bullets down or something would improve it, and allow players to earn more points in longer rounds, rather than being forced to click the reset button every ten seconds.

That said, it's a good showcase for a concept that needs to be used as a core gameplay mechanic more, and the upgrades were (mostly) genuinely useful.

The Sad Thing is...

That I came up with this idea for a flash game 6 months ago and could have implemented it in that time if I had the technical skill. Nonetheless, great game.

Don't worry, that always happens to me and I DO have the technical skill!

If you like a challenge, go for this level I just made.

REVIEW-

For those of you with a powerful cerebral cortex, Electric Box is great. Never contrived or ridiculous in its solutions (though pushing steam around like crazy is a little unlikely - personally, I'd just fetch some extension cables) - it doesn't get dull even at levels 14 and 15, which are head-slammingly difficult to figure out. The custom level builder is a great addition, and prolongs the length of the game significantly. It took me around 10 minutes to figure out each of the two final level, and, while this can be done through trial-and-error, it's much easier to plan it out in your head. As you can probably guess from my rave review, I loved this game, and hope to see more of it in the future. Keep on trucking, TwinkleStar Games! Even though I'm myself a game designer, I've got my eye on you...

Actually, this is good...

For those, like me, who relish a challenge. The art is nice and the concept is poetic too. Be ye fairly warned though; this game will take a large rock and proceed to dash your brains out with it. Don't be fooled by the U rating, this game is HARDCORE. I've got 18 keys so far (collected all of them I could find). I wouldn't say the game is actually flawed as such, though the lives do need to go. It is, however, an edge-of-the-seat ride across the inside of your own brain as you struggle against the odds. A classic, though I suspect it will become more of a hardcore/cult classic than a mainstream one.

Well...

A very interesting game, loved the difference in theme from your typical tower defence game. The variety of units made me want to come back for more - it was very addictive. However, it quickly gets repetitive. Perhaps have unlockable objects (not necessarily worth anything in terms of gameplay, like Super Smash Bros. Brawl's trophies and stickers) or achievements for the astute player to unlock. The four extra levels were a nice reward, but they in themselves weren't enough. Smaller rewards for smaller achievements would have been nice - even if all they earned you was a medal and/or a title of some kind.

That said, I recommend this game to anyone who enjoys Tower Defence games.

Strategy:

I found that the best strategy to use was a combination of fully upgraded cannons and Super Monkeys, with a few Freeze Balls thrown in for good measure. The reason for this is that Cannons affect a large area, making them effectively ranged Tack Throwers - and they smash Lead Bloons. These should make up the bulk of your forces, followed by Super Monkeys as soon as possible. The Super Monkeys, once fully upgraded, do a nice job of replacing regular tack throwers entirely. In fact, as soon as you have enough cash to buy a Super Monkey, even if you need to sell Tack Throwers - they're rendered effectively useless by a Super Monkey.

Hope the review and strategy help my fellow newgrounders.

Dammit!

Owww... it hurts my head. Even though I'm one of the top of my year in maths at school. The game itself is good, but as edutainment the questions need to be toned down - it focuses too much on the maths (perhaps a 'clip' of rockets, to reload you need to do an equation?), and, to add to the frustration, you have no opportunities to dodge rockets through maths yourself.

What a joke!

I hate to be brutally honest, but it seems like you just read a 'my first platformer' flash tutorial. Good for a joke game, but pathetic for any serious game. The music at the end was the best part. Now, I know I'll get flamed for this, but I'll give it 3 stars purely on virtue of the music.

Kianis responds:

I'm sorry you didn't get it.

Wow!

This is a really revolutionary concept - in an alternative universe, I could imagine Super Mario Galaxy being like a 3D version of level 3. It's practically a new genre. Another thing - is it pre-scripted or generated by algorithm? Because if it's made by algorithm, I'd love to see a option to use your own music - Dragonforce + This Game = Hardest (and best) Platform Game Evar!!!!11! 1! ! !!!!!

You should try and get a version made for an iPod game. I'd love this by algorithm on my 'Pod, and with my own music... (Foams at mouth)

Oh dear, I appear to be getting overexcited. BAD IMAGINATION! DOWN, BOY!

I'd buy this if expanded, as you may have gathered. A commercial version would make me squeal with almost as much delight as Smash Bros. Brawl will.
